What an interesting show this was. I was asked to take some photos by a friend on Thursday night of the Finley Quaye show at the GLC, took a few shots of the openers but didn’t get many of the head liner. The anxious crowd awaited for Finley to come on set, he played approximately 4 songs and then walked off the stage. I suppose it wasn’t his night to shine… many were disappointed. Whistler is an interesting community because it has the best of both worlds. It has it’s peak season, when the tourists come hurdling in to race up our mountains, and the slower season when the locals seem to be more united. Our touristy community allows us to host fabulous events and welcome amazing musicians. Even though we are a small community at heart we have the advantage of being able to experience big city life at times. This pass week we had some amazing talent come through our gates. I got a chance to take photos at the Black Seeds concert held at the GLC. Representing some Canadian vibes was the opener Giraffe Aftermath from Vancouver, BC. I was asked to take some shots of the band Slush during one of their gigs at Merlin’s here in Whistler. As I was wishing for better lighting, I found myself rocking out beside the speakers. So it’s officially over… Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival has come to an end. It has been such an amazing experience shooting for Watermark during this festival! I have been using my macro setting a lot lately, trying to catch the detail and filling the frame. It’s rare that I get some good window light because my house is surrounded by massive trees, although yesterday the light was coming through so I decided to take some close ups of my guitar. The rose is from my friends backyard in North Vancouver, isn’t it pretty?
A friend of mine offered me a ticket to go see this band at a local underground bar here in Whistler, BC. I had never really listened to Against Me before, but I thought it would be a great opportunity to shoot some musicians and listen to something new! The crowd went wild, everyone was sweating and singing along. I loved the high energy and the contrast of light in the club. I’m so glad I went
